A quick health check every day should help to keep your dog in good condition.
It is important to weigh your dog on a regular basis and observe them in normal activities
such as play, exercise, eating and drinking. Knowing your dog and being aware of
any changes in their temperament or movement may help you to identify any health
issue before it becomes a major concern.
Dog osteoarthritis and diseases such as hip and elbow dysplasia are common health
issues in pedigree breeds of dogs and all older dogs.
Dogs often have a high pain threshold so it may be difficult to identify whether
they are suffering from arthritis or hip/elbow dysplasia. Ultimately an x-ray may
be necessary to determine the extent of a problem, however, there are a number of
signs that an owner should look out for:
Mobility issue e.g. not willing to climb stairs, falling behind on walks, not wanting
Difficulty getting up from a lying down position
Fortunately there are a number of products available to make life a little bit easier
for dogs and dog owners alike that are suffering mobility issues. A dog car ramp
can significantly aid an injured, ill or older pet (and owner) by enabling easy access
to transport and continuation of healthy exercise.
We also recommend supplementing your dog’s diet with a complementary joint nutrition
food such as Barker and Wags LeapDOG which includes active ingredients such as glucosamine
and chondroitin to encourage healthy joints and assist in recovery or stave off illness.
